MSC containership breaks down transiting to Port of Los Angeles

According to a new shipping advisory, the MSC Ariane has broken down in the Pacific Ocean after reporting a fuel quality issue.
A customer advisory issued by MSC indicates that the vessel is now under tow to Japan for repair and fuel replacement.
“MSC regrets any inconvenience caused by this incident and we will communicate again in due course as soon as we have updated information to pass on to you about the estimated arrival and berthing in Los Angeles,” notes the MSC advisory.
MSC and Maersk signed the 2M Alliance vessel-sharing business agreement on Asia-Europe, transpacific, and transatlantic trading routes. This is a mitigation effort to better utilized a combined capacity in the wake of a failed bid launch of the P3 Network concept.
With that, Maersk also issued an advisory indicating a similar message of concern for their customers.
“MSC Ariane was expected to berth in Los Angeles on April 24th,” reports Maersk. “Due to the congestion in the Los Angeles area, we are now expecting a schedule adjustment to this original berthing plan.”
The 13,000 TEU MSC Ariane was built in 2012 is a Panama-flagged vessel, reports GCaptain.
