Nigeria to release ABC Maritime tanker after three-year arrest
A Swiss-flagged, ABC Maritime tanker detained in January 2018 on suspicion of illegal oil transfers is the be released from arrest
The Swiss foreign ministry has said that the 2002-built, 7,600-dwt, San Padre Pio is to be released from arrest in Nigeria after it signed an agreement with the Nigerian government.
“It is now incumbent on Nigeria to release the vessel and on the companies involved in operating the San Padre Pio to take the necessary operational measures for the actual departure of the vessel,” the foreign ministry said.
The vessel was detained in January 2018 in Nigeria’s exclusive economic zone on suspicion of illegal oil transfers. The tanker remained at anchor in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
