Video: Vietnamese boxship wipes out tower crane
Caught on camera: small boxship, the Phuc Khanh, loses power and slams into a construction crane.
A Vietnamese container feeder has struck and destroyed a tower crane on the Lon Tau River, just south of Ho Chi Minh City, reports The Maritime Executive.
The accident was caught on camera last Monday as the Phuc Khanh lost power, hitting a bridge pillar and then drifting down onto the crane which was working on the cable-stayed bridge being constructed across the river.
The crane was destroyed and fell onto the deck on the ship, causing damage to her cargo. Apart from some damage to an anti-collision structure, there appears to be little damage to the bridge itself.
The Phuc Khanh was en route from Hi Chi Minh City to Haiphong when the accident happened. After the collision the vessel was able to return to Ben Nghe Port. She had around 350 boxes aboard and the extent of the damage is being evaluated. There are no reports of any casualties.
