2 Navy Officers Fired Over Submarine Collision

On October 2 the USS Connecticut, a Navy submarine was in the South China Sea when it abruptly struck what officials have determined to be an underwater mountain otherwise known as a seamount.

The US Navy didn’t report the incident until 5 days later which raised concerns for China on the transparency of what actually occurred in the area of international waters.

The submarine has been in Guam since the incident for investigation and assessment of damages to the vessel.  It’s been determined that no damage was made to the nuclear reactor or the propulsion system of the submarine.

As the investigation continues, officials announced on November 4 that they have terminated the positions of the two senior officers guiding the vessel, a commanding officer and an executive officer as well as the Master Chief Sonar Technician “due to loss of confidence.”
