Ace Tankers to buy eight new stainless-steel tankers
Company outlines $376m deal for first stainless-steel tankers above 30,000 dwt.
Idan Ofer-backed Ace Tankers has penned a new deal to buy up to eight stainless-steel tankers from South Korea’s Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering.
The Amsterdam-based company has signed up for four firm newbuildings with options for four more, sources told TradeWinds.
Dae Sun has confirmed the contract, but declined to say if the buyer is Ace Tankers. Sources within the industry said Ace Tankers is paying $47m per vessel for the conventionally-fuelled chemical tankers.
The new vessels will comply with Phase 3 of the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Indexstandards and Tier III NOx rules. Delivery of the first ship is expected by May 2023.
“Ace Tankers is entering a new segment on the stainless-steel chemical tanker business,” a shipping source said. “It has been involved in tankers below 21,000 dwt.
“Ace is doing a lot of parcel trade … It has received requirements for ships of this size [33,000 dwt]. The new tankers will be trading worldwide.”
