tpgroup’s autonomous vessel completes sea trials

Navigation system, Northstar, demonstrates it can safely navigate in real-time says company.
tpgroup’s patent-pending navigation system, Northstar, has completed its sea trials, said the company in a recent press release. The system has shown it can navigate in a real-life environment without human intervention and could soon be piloting vessels in a range of environments.
Northstar features optimum-route-selection and collision-avoidance systems and uses real-time, real-life data-gathering capabilities in conjunction with embedded reference data to navigate, even in a GPS-denied environment.
Luke Tucker, tpgroup’s Group Consulting and Services Director said: “We are proud of our achievement in advancing autonomous navigation for unmanned vessels within the maritime sector, and look forward to progressing our land trials for unmanned vehicles in 2021.”
