US Navy Aircraft Carrier Sales for One Penny
Decommissioned US Navy Warship Heads to Scrapyard
After providing 48 years of service to the USA including deployment for wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and even Iraq, the US Navy decommissioned the Navy warship USS Kitty Hawk in 2009 where it then rested for almost 10 years.
In October 2021, she was then sold for literally one penny to International Shipbreaking Limited.
The vessel departed Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Washington for its last voyage on January 15 and is on its way to the scrapyard located in Texas but must take the Strait of Magellan route due to its large size being that its 280 feet wide and 1,000 feet long.
