America to Get its First Offshore Wind Turbine Blade Facility

America is set to get its first ever offshore wind turbine OEM blade facility in Virginia courtesy Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

Estimated at $200m, the long term lease for an estimated 80 acres at the Virginia Portsmouth Marine Terminal will serve as a finishing facility to the Siemens Gamesa Offshore IntergralBlades.

Steve Dayney, Siemens Gamesa’s head of offshore North America said, “As Congress considers taking historic action on climate, this facility evidences that offshore wind can create significant new manufacturing activity and quality jobs to American communities.”
