La Méridionale to trial ground-breaking dry scrubber
French ro/pax operator launches trial of new dry scrubber aboard vessel La Piana.
La Méridionale has announced that it has launched a trial of a new scrubber that combines a dry scrubber for SOx and PM removal and a urea/catalyst-based NOx remover, all in one unit.
The test unit is provided by Austrian manufacturer Andritz and will be installed on La Méridionale’s vessel La Piana. The system will enable La Piana to carry a single exhaust gas cleaning system, rather than three separate systems.
Andritz says the the novel combination of scrubbers will push the system to its limits, but is confident that the new installation will produce results. It also says La Méridionale picked it for the new partnership because of the scrubber’s environmental performance and low power consumption.
