Iran To Open Maritime Security Coordination Centre
Iranian navy unveils plans for maritime security centre in country’s south eastern port of Chabahar.
The Commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, has announced that the country will open a maritime security coordination centre in the port of Chabahar.
Admiral Khanzadi made the announcement at the 7th meeting of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), held on Reunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar.
He said Iran has stepped up efforts for coordination among IONS members and has complied the first “IONS tactical book” that focusses on anti-piracy, the sharing of information, and addressing natural disasters.
IONS has 24 members, including Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, France, Australia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Seychelles, Thailand, Timor Leste, and the UK.
