Second accident in Suez Canal in 24 hours
A bulker and a Russian military tanker have collided in the Suez Canal. The report comes hours after the Evergreen-operated, Ever Given, ran aground in the Canal, blocking it totally and causing traffic to pile up at either end of the strategic waterway.
A Russian military tanker has been involved in a collision with a bulker in the Suez Canal. The Russian vessel, the Kola, clashed with a 47,000-dwt Barbados-flagged bulker, the Ark Royal. It is not currently clear whether the accident occurred before or after the Canal was blocked by the Ever Given, the ULCS that ran aground yesterday.
Russia’s Baltic Sea Fleet said in a press release that the crew of the tanker were not injured and that there had been no damage or release of fuel. The tanker was able to continue on its voyage.
Databases list the Ark Royal as managed by Serenity Ship Management of Dubai, but the company told Tradewinds that it does not operate the vessel. There is no report of any damage to the vessel.
