Armed Men Board Two Additional Vessels in Singapore Strait
On The Day After Receiving Warning, Two More Ships Boarded by Armed Men
Two vessels were boarded by offenders armed with knives within 30 minutes of each other on July 17, in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme of the Singapore Strait off Tanjung Pergam, Bintan Island, Indonesia, ReCAAP reported.
Following both incidents, the culprits fled once they were seen by the crew. Both reports indicate that there were noinjuries or property stolen.
On the day before this incident, reports were made of 16 new incidents off Bintan Island in Indonesian waters that had occurred after ReCAAP issued a press conference claiming that incidents in the Singapore Strait had increased in the first half of the year up to 20.
Following the latest two occurrences, ReCAAP issued an advisory that stated, “As the perpetrators are not arrested, there is a possibility of further incidents off Tanjung Pergam, Bintan Island, Indonesia,”
All ships have been warned to enhance their alertness and to be on the lookout in that specific area at night.
