Influential Greek shipowner hospitalised
John Angelicoussis believed to have suffered heart attack in Athens
The Greek shipowner, John Angelicoussis, has been admitted to hospital following a suspected heart attack, reports TradeWinds. The 72-year-old is reported to be in a serious condition and in a statement to TradeWinds on Sunday, the Angelicoussis Shipping Group (ASG) said the condition of John Angelicoussis, its president, was “serious but stable”.
No more information was given, other than that Angelicoussis was taken ill early Saturday morning and that he was receiving the “very best medical attention”.
His daughter Maria, who has already assumed a prominent role in the company’s affairs, has taken over as acting chief executive.
She said: “We understand the interest in my father’s condition. We will provide an update when we can and as appropriate, but in the meantime, we kindly request that the privacy of my father and his family are respected at this most worrying time.”
