An “ailing and disorientated” mariner has been airlifted to safety from the afterdeck of the ATB vessel Leigh Ann Moran by the United States Coastguard. The evacuation was caught on camera as the 60-year-old was plucked from the tug about 65 miles off Galveston, Texas.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at about 1600 hours local time. Following a medical consultation with the duty flight surgeon, who advised a medevac, a Dolphin helicopter and a Ocean Sentry aeroplane were despatched from Air Station Corpus Christi.

The casualty was transported to Scholes International Airport and thence to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The unnamed man is reported to be in a stable condition.
