New Red Jellyfish Discovered in Atlantic Ocean
New Jellyfish Found in the Atlantic Ocean
A new jellyfish has been discovered 700 meters (2,300 feet) below sea level in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to its unique appearance, the previously unknown and unrecognized creature stands out thanks to its striking red color.
Of the Poralia species, this type of jellyfish usually has around 30 tentacles and a fragile structure.
On its mission, the scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) researchers discovered additional undersea animals that have not yet been recorded.
During the 2021 North Atlantic Stepping Stones expedition, which began on June 30 and ended on July 29, these unidentified creatures were most discovered. A remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) that can be deployed to depths of up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles), covering hundreds and thousands of meters below sea level was used as they traveled along the eastern coast of the U.S.
