Kidnapping in the Gulf of Guinea
Dryad Global reports that the F/V Atlantic Princess has been boarded off Tema and five crew have been kidnapped.
Reports indicate that the fishing vessel, Atlantic Princess (IMO8124412), was boarded 65nm south of Tema, Ghana and five crew members have been kidnapped.
The vessel is understood to have been approached by a fast boat with eight pirates on board who opened fire before boarding the fishing vessel.
Dryad Global says the Atlantic Princess was sailed south to approximately 100nm offshore before the pirates left her.
The five crew who have been kidnapped are understood to be comprised of the following individuals: Captain – Korean, Chief Officer – Chinese, Second Officer – Chinese, Chief Engineer – Chinese, Bosun – Russian.
The last attack in the GoG was on 15th March, and so far this year 56 mariners have been kidnapped during five incidents. This latest incident represents the furthest westerly kidnapping in the GoG to date.
