World’s First Automated Container High Bay Store System
DP World’s global network’s Jebel Ali Container Terminal in Dubai recently completed testing of the Boxbay fully automated container storage system, handling nearly 63,000 container moves since opening earlier this year.
Boxbay is a DP World and SMS Group joint venture. The system moves containers in, out, and between slots using fully automated electric cranes built into the structure.
This system uses solar energy to power a steel rack that can hold eleven storage containers high. DP World claims Boxbay offers three times the capacity of traditional container yards while reducing terminal size by 70% and energy costs by 29%.
The terminal operator in Dubai said the facility delivered faster and surpassed expectations at it was more energy efficient than previously forecasted.
