Chinese shipyards ban arrivals from India
Shipyards in the Chinese repair hub of Zhoushan have banned arrivals from the Indian subcontinent amid fears of the Indian strain of the Coronavirus.
Vessels that have called at or changed crews in India in the last three months have been banned from entering shipyards in the Chinese repair hub of Zhoushan, reports Bloomberg.
Restrictions are in place on vessels from India and well as Bangladesh, said a spokesman from shipping and logistics company Wilhelmsen Group. Details were confirmed by an official from Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard Co.
Shipyards in Zhoushan are among the world’s top repairers in terms of business volume, according to state-owned China Daily. The current ban was implemented after 11 crew tested positive for Covid-19 in late April. The infected people were onboard a vessel that had docked at a local shipyard.
