Largest floating solar farm in the world to be built in Indonesia
$2 billion floating solar farm to be developed by Sunseap.
Plans for the world’s largest floating solar energy farm have been unveiled by the Sunseap Group and Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam). The new project will be installed at Batam Island, Indonesia, and will cost an estimated $2 billion.
Under a memorandum of understanding between the two companies, Sunseap will develop the floating photovoltaic system (FPV) and energy storage system (ESS).
The FPV is projected to have a capacity of 2.2 GWp and will encompass an area of 1600 hectares, making it easily the largest FPV built to date. Sunseap expects the farm to generate more than 2,600 GWh, potentially saving more than 1.8 million metric tons of carbon per year.
Frank Phuan, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sunseap said: “We believe that floating solar systems will go a long way to address the land constraints that urbanized parts of Southeast Asia face in tapping renewable energy.”
