Latest Salish-class ferry floated
BC Ferries’ fourth LNG ro-pax is nearing completion in Remontowa’s Gdansk facilities.
Work continues in Poland on BC Ferries’ new ro-pax vessel reports Baird Maritime, today. The state-of-the-art LNG ferry will be the British Columbian line’s fourth Salish-class vessel and will conduct her sea trials in late 2021.
Her shake-down cruise will be the testing 10,440-nautical-mile journey from Gdansk, through the Panama Canal and up the North American west coast, where he will go through final preparations for passenger service in British Columbia.
Serving the Southern Gulf Islands, the 107-metre-long ferry will have a capacity for 138 vehicles and up to 600 passengers and crew. Built as a dual-fuel the Salish-class can run on LNG or low-sulphur diesel. Her introduction into service will herald the retirement of the Mayne Queen, a conventional diesel-fuelled vessel.
