Collision between Scorpio tanker and Knutsen LNG carrier off Spain
Spanish Ministry of Transport says there are no injuries and no pollution after clash between tanker and LNG carrier 2.5 miles outside the port of Huelva.
39,000-dwt product tanker STI Pimlico (built 2013) was in collision with the 138,000-cbm Bilbao Knutsen (built 2004) about 2.5 miles off the port of Huelva at 0403 GMT on Friday, reports Spain’s transport, mobility, and urban planning ministry (MITMA).
No pollution or casualties have been reported and the local harbour master’s office has carried out a preliminary inspection of the two vessels. An investigation into how the two ships collided has begun.
The accident happened in the port’s anchorage as the laden LNG carrier was leaving Huelva’s LNG import terminal.
The tanker lost her anchor’s starboard anchor’s flukes and crown, and was damaged on her starboard side.
Neither line has commented on the collision.
