Soaring Shipping Fees Cause Canada to Seek Investigation

Container transportation rates have increased over 400% since January 2021, which is prompting the Burnaby Board of Trade in Canada to call for intervention from the federal government.

Shipment rates have risen to the point where businesses all around the Lower Mainland are spending thousands of dollars per container.

In January, a construction business was quoted $4,000, but by August, their quotation was $12,500.

Since the association hasn’t seen such a huge increase in such a short time, they fear businesses won’t be able to withstand the increased prices for long.
