Stena Line Reveals New Names for its Baltic Sea Ferries
Two names were chosen from 600 suggestions given online by its customers
In an official news release from the company, Stena Line has revealed the names for its two modern RoPax ferries that will do the rounds between Ventspils in Latvia and Nynäshamn in Sweden, beginning in 2021.
The two names these fairies have received are Stena Baltica and Stena Scandica.
Built back in 2005 at Italy’s Visentini shipyard, these ferries had in fact been servicing the route between Liverpool and Belfast over the past 10 years, operating as Stena Mersey and Stena Lagan.
Prior to commencing operations on their new Baltic Sea route, both ferries will be modernised and elongated by the company’s own sister concern, Stena RoRo.
Commenting on the development, Baltic Sea North Trade Director said, “The new vessel names connect with our Scandinavian heritage as well as the region where they will operate. The vessels will add a brand new modern onboard experience for both travel and freight customers on the Baltic Sea.”
Lengthening Process
Stena Baltica (as it will be known) currently operates as Stena Mersey. It will be replaced on its Irish Sea route by the company’s novel E-Flexer called Stena Embla, once it makes its way from China.
Stena Scandica is already going through its conversion process in Turkey.
The lengthening process involves adding a 36-metre midsection that will give the vessels:
- A total length of 222 meters.
- Capacity for 200 cabins (including 88 brand new, modern ones) that equates to space for 970 passengers.
- A 30% increase in freight capacity.
Select provisions that customers could enjoy after refurbishment include:
- Wi-Fi at all public areas
- An outdoor sundeck
- A restaurant and bar with a Seaview
- Numerous lounge areas with TV screens and reclining seats
- 24/7 guest services
