BOEM completed the environmental review for Vineyard wind farm
The US Department of Interior has completed the environmental review for a proposed offshore wind farm.

WASHINGTON — The US Department of Interior and its Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has completed a positive environmental analysis of the proposed Vineyard Wind I offshore wind project. According to BOEM, this represents major progress for the Biden administration to reach its goal for public lands and waters as a key component of tackling the climate crisis.
“The United States is poised to become a global clean energy leader,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Laura Daniel Davis, in a press statement published on March 8.
“To realize the full environmental and economic benefits of offshore wind, we must work together to ensure all potential development is advanced with robust stakeholder outreach and scientific integrity,” Davis notes.
“Offshore energy development provides an opportunity for us to work with Tribal nations, communities, and other ocean users to ensure all decisions are transparent and utilize the best available science,” said Amanda Lefton, the director of BOEM.
Vineyard Wind has proposed the first project developed in the lease area for allotted by the BOEM. This includes an 800-megawatt wind energy project offshore Massachusetts. The proposed project would also be located 12 nautical miles offshore Martha’s Vineyard and 12 nautical miles offshore Nantucket in the northern portion of the Vineyard Wind lease area.
