Master jailed for a month in Cyprus for unauthorised port calls
Romanian captain jailed for docking in “closed” northern port.
The 60-year-old master of the Italian MR tanker Red Garnet has been jailed for a month in Cyprus after making two unauthorised port calls in the Turkish-controlled north half of the island.
Larnaca district court heard that checks showed that the 50,000-dwt tanker entered Boyazi on 14th October and 12th December 2020, the Cyprus News Agency reported.
The Republic of Cyprus considers Boyazi a closed port as it is administered by Turkish Cypriot authorities.
The Maltese-flagged Red Garnet is owned by Socomar of Italy who have not made an official statement.
