MOL responds to Forbes
Mistsui O.S.K Lines says it rejects the findings of a recent report by Forbes and considers its conclusions “seriously flawed”.

Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) has published a response to a Forbes report on the grounding of the bulk carrier Wakashio last year. The Wakashio ran aground on a reef in Mauritius in July 2020 and breached her tanks, causing an oil spill in the pristine seas around the Indian Ocean island.
MOL said: “MOL fundamentally disagrees with and rejects the analysis made in the article based on the misleading interpretation of unconnected information and comes to seriously flawed conclusions.”
The Forbes article, titled “Special Report: Explosive Documents Reveal BP Behind Toxic Mauritius Oil Spill” blamed “experimental” low-sulphur fuel supplied by BP for the loss of propulsion that caused the accident. The ship broke her back after two weeks on the reef and released approximately 1,000 tonnes of bunker fuel into the sea — the worst ecological disaster in the island nation’s history.
