Three new freight-only sailings between France and Ireland
Brittany ferries responds to demand for more direct freight links between Ireland and the rest of the EU.
In response to calls for more direct freight-links between the Republic of Ireland and the Continent, Brittany Ferries has announced three new sailings, two on the Cork-Roscoff route and one on the Rosslaire-St. Malo route.
The new sailings will commence on Thursday between Rosslaire and St. Malo and on Saturday between Cork and St. Malo. Prior to Brexit, most lorries travelling between Ireland and France transited via the UK, but after 1st January, increasing numbers of hauliers have been deterred from this land bridge due to post-Brexit checks and paperwork.
Hugh Brutin, General Manager of Brittany Ferries, said: “It’s clear that Brexit has distorted flows of trade between France and Ireland, there’s now clear and compelling demand both in Brittany and beyond to boost freight capacity direct from the region to Ireland. And Irish traders too are seeking direct links to Western France. We’re always listening to our haulier customers in order to best meet their needs and we look forward to restarting Brittany-Ireland services two months earlier than planned.”
