Over 1 ton of Cocaine Found on Bulk Carrier Headed to Europe
Drug Bust on Bulk Carrier in France
On October 1 anti-drug officials were informed of a bulk carrier possibly containing drugs aboard.
The vessel Trudy, a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier was en route to Antwerp in Europe from Brazil when it was intercepted by French authorities in the English Channel.
Over one ton (1127 kilos), of cocaine was found aboard the vessel in the cargo hold area.
The Romanian captain along with all 18 other crew members from various countries like Russia, Ukraine, the Philippines and Ethiopia were arrested as well.
The ship is being detained in the port of Dunkirk, France and on October 4 all detainees were transferred to Paris as a court hearing is currently scheduled for October 7 to determine if any charges should take place.
