Bulk Carrier Runs Aground in US
USCG Aids in US-Flagged Bulk Carrier Refloat in Michigan
On October 21 US Coast Guard received a call to advise that a bulk carrier vessel was obstructing traffic in the Michigan Saginaw River due to high winds in the area.
Around 8pm the 630-foot long US-flagged MV Calumet carrying tons of limestone and over 90,000 gallons of diesel fuel was making its way through the river when the winds pushed the vessel towards the channels edge.
A tug, Kurt Luedtke was deployed to take part in the rescue and ultimately refloated the vessel on October 22 causing no traffic delays or other issues.
