Cadeler inks deal for pair of turbine installation vessels
Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry wins $651m contract to build two X-Class wind turbine installation vessels.
Cadeler has ordered two new wind turbine installation vessels costing $651m from Cosco Shipping Heavy Industries. The first X-Class vessel will be ready in the third quarter of 2024 and the second in the first quarter of 2025.
The first of the vessels has already been contracted for one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world, the RWE-owned 1.4W Sofia offshore wind power park in the North Sea.
Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler says: “Expansion of our fleet is an important strategic priority to ensure that we can meet the demand we are seeing from clients for greater installation capacity.
“Offshore wind plays an increasingly important role in the green energy transition, and the installed offshore wind capacity is expected to grow substantially the coming years across several regions.”
