Rare Fish Washes up on California Coast in US
Rare Fish Identified by Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute After Washing Ashore
A rare sea creature identified by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute as a Shovelnose Guitarfish washed ashore and frightened 22 year-old Eleanor Morgan as she was out walking her dogs on Ocean Beach in San Francisco on December 11.
The fish was an estimated 3-feet long with a pointed snout and is known to be harmless to humans although it’s related to rays. A bottom feeder type fish that normally lives in shallow waters.
Morgan stated, “I was really fascinated when I saw it, as I had never seen anything like it before.”
