Zim Vessel Catches Fire After Losing Containers in Canada
Lost Containers at Sea and Fire Aboard Zim Kingston
On Friday October 22 it was reported that the Zim Kingston, a cargo ship vessel from South Korea was on its way to a port in Vancouver when it encountered very rough seas ultimately tossing an estimated 40 containers into the sea.
Warnings were sent out via US Coast Guard and Canadian Coast Guard to advise vessels to be cautious in the area as some of the containers were to contain hazardous materials.
As clean up commenced and was continuing to rescue the containers that were visible in the sea, the Coast Guard received another call around 11am on October 23 to advise that a fire was to have reportedly started aboard the ship amongst the other containers aboard that were damaged.
The vessel has been anchored in the waters of the Constance Bank and the Coast Guard has a lifeboat on standby nearby the vessel to asses the damages as the situation continues to unfold.
