Tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico — Update on the Seacor Power
USCG confrims one dead and 12 still missing after liftboat capsizes in hurricane-force winds.
The United States Coast Guard has confirmed that a body has been found after accident in the Gulf of Mexico. 12 crew members are still missing after the Seacor Marine-operated liftboat, Seacor Power, capsized in winds gusting to 80 mph.
Six survivors were rescued from the 39-metre, 2,300-gt vessel during a search effort that involved private craft and USCG vessels and aircraft. The accident happened 12km S of Port Fourchon, Louisiana on Tuesday afternoon.
When asked about the prospect of finding more survivors, Coast Guard Captain Will Watson said, “We are hopeful. We can’t do this work if you’re not optimistic, if you’re not hopeful.”
