First Ever Woman Captain Commands US Aircraft Carrier
US Navy Makes History Aboard USS Abraham Lincoln
Capt. Amy Bauernschmidt has made history before when in 2016 she became the first ever female executive officer aboard a US aircraft carrier.
Now, she will be known as the first ever female captain to assume command of an aircraft carrier as the USS Abraham Lincoln departed San Diego on January 3 for a regularly scheduled deployment.
Capt. Bauernschmidt stated, “These Sailors are incredible professionals who have trained exceptionally hard to ensure they are ready for any operational obligations required of us on deployment,” she continued. “They are absolutely prepared for today’s deployment, and I have no doubt they will represent our nation proudly as we defend our national interests.”
