Four crew members of the bulker CSSC Cape Town were injured in an explosion onboard the ship some days ago.
Two of them were evacuated for immediate treatment for severe burns.
Bunkerspot reports that the Royal Gibraltar Police has begun preliminary investigations into the cause of the Feb. 19 explosion onboard the vessel.
Port authorities note that the Cape Town was transiting 112,365 metric tonnes of coal from a US port to a port of call in Egypt.
The China State Shipbuilding Corporation built Cape Town and flagged it in Hong Kong. Its 19 crew members are all Chinese nationals.
“Technicians will shortly attend the vessel to try to repair the vessel’s anchor system,” said the Gibraltar Port Authority in a statement.
“Classification and flag state representatives and surveyors will also attend to carry out their own investigations aboard the vessel.”
