Castor Maritime scoops up another kamsarmax
Expanding Cypriot owner buys another bulker as spending spree hits $300.
Nasdaq-listed, Castor Maritime has bought yet another kamsarmax, bringing its assault on the secondhand market to over $300m. The shipowner said it bought the latest addition to its 24-vessel fleet for $21m.
The 82,000-dwt Peak Proteus‘ value has been estimated at $22.65m. The seller was Bermuda-registered Defender Holding.
Earlier this year, Defender sold its 180,700-dwt capesize True Dream (built 2014) to India’s Great Eastern Shipping. The company now has five bulkers remaining.
Peak Proteus should be delivered during the second quarter or at the beginning of the third quarter, Castor said.
Chief executive Petros Panagiotidis said: “We continue to steadily execute our expansion plan with the addition of another kamsarmax dry bulk vessel to Castor’s fleet.”
