Castor Maritime expands fleet with $17m kamsarmax purchase
Cyprus-based shipowner buys eighth second-hand vessel since January.
Nasdaq-listed Castor Maritime has bought another second-hand ship, a 2011 Japanese-built kamsarmax bulker for $16.85m. This makes the eighth vessel the company has bought this year. The bulker will enter service with the company sometime between the third and fourth quarters of this year.
Castor has already spent over $100m this year on a capesize, four kamsarmaxes and two LRs, and its entry into the tanker market followed a series of fundraising share issues.
The company said it has also taken delivery of the 2005-built 115,000-dwt Wonder Polaris from Dylan Maritime in Dubai. The vessel is on a time-charter of at least 12 months at $15,000 a day.
Chief Executive, Petros Panagiotidis, said: “We are pleased to announce our eighth vessel acquisition in 2021 with the addition of another kamsarmax dry bulk vessel, our fifth, to Castor’s fleet.”
Allied Shipbroking figures indicate that 202 vessels have changed hands in the second-hand bulker market this year, amounting to deals worth $2.4 bn.
