High winds topple New Times’ crane — two missing
Two crane drivers are missing at China’s New Times Shipbuilding’s yard in Jiangsu Province, after Force 12 winds topple gantry crane.
A 600-ton gantry crane was blown over by high winds at the New Times Shipbuilding yard in China on Friday evening, reports TradeWinds. A New Times spokesman said two drivers were missing and that a search was ongoing.
“On Friday evening, winds of more than force 12 hit Jiangsu province,” the spokesman said.
The shipyard added that it did not expect the accident to affect its newbuilding delivery schedule and said it had plans to install a new 900-ton crane.
“We are trying to minimise work disruption in the shipyard,” the New Times spokesman said. “The new crane will take around seven to eight months to build.”
