Celebrity Edge kicks off US cruise re-start
Luxury cruise ship, Celebrity Edge, sails from Port Everglades carrying 1,100 paying guests in first sailing since Covid-shutdown last year.
The US cruise industry got its long-awaited re-start on Saturday when the Celebrity Cruises vessel, Celebrity Edge, set sail from Port Everglades.
With 1,100 paying guests aboard, this is the first full-scale US commercial cruise since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the industry last year.
“Today marks the rebirth of our company and our industry, as our beautiful Celebrity Edge sets sail on a new-luxury experience that will – once again – feed peoples’ love of travel,” said Celebrity CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo in a statement.
The Edge is carrying a third of her normal complement of passengers and nearly all aboard her have received their full Covid vaccinations. Vaccinated passengers are not required to wear masks and social distancing measures have been relaxed.
