Iranian Mariners Rescued After 8 Days at Sea by US Navy
Two Iranian Mariners at Sea for 8 Days Rescued by US Navy
On November 27 a distress call was received at the Combined Maritime Forces, an international maritime coalition in Bahrain which then deployed the USNS Charles Drew and dry cargo ship to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Charles Drew found two Iranian mariners and rescued them from their fishing vessel which had been in the Gulf of Oman drifting for the past eight days. The US Navy was able to supply them with food, water and other supplies.
The mariners were then transported to an Omani coast guard vessel sailing near Muscat, Oman.
Vice Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces said, “As professional mariners, we have a responsibility to help people in need at sea.”
