As a result of an employee testing positive for COVID-19 on August 10, the Ningbo Zhoushan port, China’s second-largest container port in volume, has suspended operations, port officials announced on Wednesday.

A representative from the Ningbo city government said that the employee who tested positive for COVID-19 at Meidong Port was given two shots of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine in January and March of this year.

After the COVID-19 test of the staff member showed positive, the Meidong firm immediately stopped all operations and closed the port area.

The port’s subsidiary, Ningbo Meidong Container Terminal Corp, has suspended all inbound and lift-off services as of 3:30 a.m. on Aug 11.

Data compiled by Refinitiv shows that as of Wednesday, there are now 28 container vessels queued at Ningbo Zhoushan port, compared to 53 vessels on July 29.
