Yantian port suspension update
Port re-opens but at a limited capacity due to ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
The Port of Yantian in China has re-opened and is accepting laden containers but at a limit of 5000 per day. However, export operations are still suspended because of congestion caused by an acute labour shortage due to an outbreak of Coronavirus.
It is reported that 96% of the space inside the port is occupied and some carriers have decided to omit South China from their routes entirely in the coming 10 days or re-route to other ports such as Nansha.
It is estimated that there are currently 23,000 containers waiting to be cleared in factories, streets and warehouses around the port area. Further service disruptions, cargo delays and rate increases are expected.
