New Ship for China’s Maritime Patrol Fleet
China’s Maritime Patrol Fleet gets an Upgrade
In addition to its 10,000 nautical mile range, the new Hai Xun 03 is 128.6 meters long, can travel at 20 knots, and is a 5,560-ton vessel that categorizes now as the biggest ocean patrol ship to be under the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration (MSA).
The vessel was launched on Sept 14 with the official China News Service advising that ship will patrol in the South China Sea in order to aid the Hainan authorities in the mainland southern area, supporting search and rescue efforts, ship pollution prevention and other maritime patrol duties.
The current plan is to fully commission the vessel in March 2022.
