Mega Port Services Halted Amid Typhoon In-Fa in East China

Because of Typhoon In-Fa battering regions around Shanghai, the world’s largest maritime ports were compelled to cease operations until at least Tuesday, July 27.

According to those familiar with the situation, all of Shanghai’s ports and a number of nearby districts are currently closed due to the terrible weather. Port Yangshan, which lies offshore to the south of Shanghai, is one of the idled ports.

On Sunday July 25, Zhejiang province to the south of Shanghai saw over 100,000 residents being evacuated, with shops, schools, and businesses shut down as a result.

Throughout the weekend of heavy weather, the images of water, flying debris, and toppled trees were shared on social media from Shanghai, China’s financial metropolis.

Shipping will be hampered because of the port closures, which will impede the delivery of cargo containers, petroleum products, liquefied natural gas, and bulk supplies like wheat. Depending on the storm’s route, the ports may possibly be able to resume as early as Tuesday.

An evacuation was also ordered for hundreds of vessels at the Yangshan port, including all large cargo ships, when wind speeds of 102 kilometers per hour (63 mph) were recorded off the shore.
