The Pacific Northwest command, or District 13, for the United States Coast Guard, announced that they are launching a full investigation into a crab fishing accident off the coast of Oregon, lining Tillamook Bay.
The vessel Coastal Reign was forced sideways by strong surf and rolled over in swells within visual sight for a Coast Guard response vessel.
Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay had issued small craft restrictions but had not closed the bar at the time of the accident, reports local media.
Two of the crew members died. The other two members of the crew are at local hospitals recovering. They remain in critical and moderate conditions.
“Upon completion of the investigation, the Coast Guard will issue a report of investigation with collected evidence, established facts and conclusions, and recommendations regarding the marine casualty,” states a press release published by the District 13 command.
The statement adds: “Rear Adm. Anthony Vogt, Coast Guard Thirteenth District Commander, authorized the investigation pursuant to the authority contained in Title 46, United States Code, Section 6301 and the regulations promulgated thereunder.”
