Washington ready to review Jones Act waiver requests
MARAD says it has completed its assessment of what ships are available to carry petroleum products from the Gulf to the Eastern Seaboard and is ready to review any Jones Act waiver requests following the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack.
Joe Biden’s administration says it is ready to review any Jones Act waiver requests following the ransomware attack that has disrupted fuel supply on the East Coast of America.
Whitehouse spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, made the following statement: “The Department of Homeland Security stands ready to review any temporary Jones Act waiver requests from companies that demonstrate there is not sufficient capacity on Jones Act-qualified vessels to carry fuel to the affected region.”
The cyber attack on Colonial Pipeline last week halted the flow of 2.5 million barrels of daily fuel shipments and is the most disruptive cyberattack on US infrastructure in history.
The Whitehouse said the Biden administration was working around the clock on ways to mitigate any shortages in the south eastern US states.
