LOS ANGELES — According to the world’s largest shipping liner, the Maersk Essen is reported to be anchored in the San Pedro Bay, awaiting a berth at APM Terminals Pier 400 in the port of Los Angeles, Calif.
“We expect to berth the Essen between March 4 – 5, and the final date and time should be confirmed by March 3,” reports Maersk. “We are optimistic we can berth and begin discharging containers this week.”
American Shipper reports that the Essen arrived at this status about March 2, with a berth expected on Thursday or Friday of this week.
Maritime Direct previously reported that the Essen sailed from the refuge Port of Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico.
After a rough sea encounter, the vessel had been at the port of refuge after diverting from its initial route to the Port of Los Angeles. The Essen lost about 750 containers during the mid-January ‘rough sea encounter.’
Maersk Essen was expected to arrive in Los Angeles on January 28.
WK Webster tracked the Essen from its port in Asia to Lazaro Cardenas after it reported the crisis on the sea.
