Dubai shaken by containership explosion
Blast aboard boxship at Jebel Ali Port felt 25km away.
An explosion aboard a containership docked at the Emirati Jebel Ali Port rocked the city of Dubai just before midnight on Wednesday, local media reports.
No casualties have been reported and videos posted on social media show firefighters showering water over a set of stacked containers and burning wreckage.
The port is run by DP World and the company referred media inquiries to the city’s government media office.
Mona al-Marri, director general of the Dubai Media Office, told Saudi-owned television station Al-Arabiya that the incident “could happen anywhere in the world”, the Associated Press reported.
