Italy fights to recover body of master who died two weeks ago
Authorities in Italy are fighting to get the body of a master who died two weeks ago on a boxship off Indonesia returned home.
The body of Captain Angelo Capurro has yet to be returned to his family after the master died on his boxship off Indonesia on 13th April.
The captain’s cause of death has not been revealed yet, but the senior officers aboard the 5,090-teu Ital Libera have tested positive for Covid-19.
Italian public prosecutor Antonio Patrono has received a complaint from family members who alleged a lack of assistance from Indonesian authorities.
Mr. Patrona has ordered an autopsy and asked Italian police to repatriate the body.
“The ship is ready to leave; we await information from the competent authorities,” operator Italia Marittima said in a statement.
