Port fees waived for ships carrying emergency oxygen to India
Emergency oxygen in short supply
India’s second wave of the pandemic has created an acute shortage of medical-grade oxygen and the Indian government has directed all ports to waive fees for vessels carrying oxygen and related supplies.
According to India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways all vessel-related charges, storage charges and other related taxes have been lifted and vessels carrying the life-saving gas will be allocated the highest priority in berthing operations.
The move extends to ships carrying medical-grade oxygen, oxygen tanks, oxygen bottles, portable oxygen generators and concentrators, and even vessels carrying steel pipe that are used in the manufacture of related equipment.
